Join us at the Michigan Library Association's Annual Conference, held October 16-18, 2013 at the Lansing Center. We a sponsor of this year's conference and Richard Butler, of our firm, will be speaking at the event.

Library directors and trustees with a millage election coming up in the next few years are encouraged to attend Mr. Butler’s presentation entitled: Library Millage Elections and Millage Campaigns: Getting Ready for the Election. The first part of Mr. Butler’s presentation will address the timing requirements and procedures for placing a millage proposal on the ballot, the requirements for the wording of ballot proposals (including a discussion of both renewals and new millage proposals), and related procedural matters. The second part will address the application of the Campaign Finance Act including the limitations on the use of library resources for advocacy purposes and the permissibility of using library resources for the dissemination of factual information regarding a proposed millage.
